Khatti Meethi Kaddu Ki Sabji

This is a red pumpkin based vegetable recipe with a mouth-watering sweet and sour taste. When served with hot puris it is even tastier.

Main Ingredient(s): Pumpkin(kaddu)


  • 500 Grams Pumpkin(kaddu)
  • 1 Pieces Raw Mango ((Small))
  • 2 Teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Cumin (Jeera or Jira)
  • 2 Tablespoon Water (According to taste)
  • 0.5 Teaspoon Fenugreek Seed(Dana Methi)
  • 1 Teaspoon Turmeric (Haldi) Powder
  • 4 Teaspoon Granular Sugar
  • 2 Teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 Tablespoon Coriander Leaves (To Garnish)
  • 1 Teaspoon Fresh Lemon Juice

Original recipe makes 6 Servings


Method of Preparation

Step 1
Peel off the outer layer of pumpkin and deseed it. Later,wash and cut it into cubical pieces and keep aside.

Step 2
Cut raw mango into small pieces and keep aside.

Step 3
Heat up oil in a pan.  When oil heats up, add fenugreek seeds and cumin seeds. When the seeds crackle, add pumpkin pieces.

Step 4
Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt and water and mix and keep the lid covered and let it cook over low flame for 10 minutes,

Step 5

When the pumpkin is cooked properly, add raw mango and let it cook again for 2-3 minutes.

Step 6
Add sugar and let it cook for 2-3 minutes till the entire water is absorbed.

Step 7
Garnish sweet and sour pumpkin with green coriander leaves and squeeze little lemon juice.

Step 8
Tastes best with hot puris.
